Young Russian Rugby Star IRB One to Watch in 2012

The IRB released a news story by Ian Gilbert the other week, highlighting junior players that he believes will step up from the age-grade ranks and make their mark on the international scene in 2012.  The usual heavyweight nations' youngsters garnered a mention along with relative minnow Russia's Denis Simplikevich who debuted for his senior national team in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, topping his selection with some fine form and two tries (one each against Ireland and Australia) to his credit by the end of The Bears' campaign.

Owen Farrell, 20, England - son of  England rugby league legend Andy Farrell who kicked a massive 17 points for a Saracens victory in the 2011 English Premiership.

Robert Lilomaiava, 19 , Samoa -top try-scorer for champions Samoa at the 2011 Junior World Trophy in Georgia.

Colby Faingaa, 20, Australia - contracted to the ACT Brumbies and brother of Saia and Anthony, both of the Queensland Reds.

Luke Whitelock, 20, New Zealand - the youngest product of the Whitelock production line, captained New Zealand at the 2011 Junior World Championship.

Jean-Marc Doussain, 20, France - "Le Petit General" directs his troops from the halves. Top 14 Young Player of the Year 2011.

Denis Simplikevich, 20, Russia - quickly bumped up to senior level after an impressive showing at the Junior World Trophy in 2010 and 2011, Simplikevich has started a trend of Russian players earning recognition of their abilities from a winless, yet brave performance at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
